What is SEO and How Does a Google Virtual Tour Affect It?2019-10-10T17:28:57-04:00

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization — optimizing a website to improve its ranking on search engines. The higher your site appears in search results the more likely people are to click through to the site itself. Our custom tours have a significant impact on search ranking. Google tours have less although they do increase “time on page,” if given some prominence, which influences ranking. Google tours can significantly increase the click-through rates from the search results to a website, which also helps search ranking.

Google also has Local Search Results (e.g.. “dentists in Maine”). A small selection with a mini-map appears in the search results. Click that and you get a full map, much more extensive local listings and much more information about each business including the virtual tour if there is one. Here Google Virtual Tours may influence ranking. More importantly, it doubles your impact with Google searchers.

What is Google Street View for Business? (formerly Business View)2019-10-10T17:27:48-04:00

We come to your business with specialized equipment to produce 360 spherical panoramas allowing web visitors to look all around as if they were there. With proprietary software from Google, we link these together into a virtual walk-through of your business, from the front entrance to as much coverage inside as you like.

Your Virtual Tour will appear in Google Search and Google Maps. It gives internet users a virtual walk-through allowing you to showcase all the details of your business. Sort of “try before you buy” that customers love. The service is perfect for restaurants, retail shops, automobile dealerships, doctors, dentists, lawyers, gyms, salons, and so much more. If you have made any effort to create a business environment to impress customers this is the perfect way to impress them even before they visit in person.

What is a “Rich Media Tag” or Matterport Tag?2019-10-10T14:32:22-04:00

A Rich Media Matter Tag, better known as a MatterportTag is a drop pin description that highlights key features and labels rooms. It can include text, images or video descriptions embedded in your 3D Showcase Tour.

What Equipment is Used to Create a Google Street View Tour?2019-10-10T17:26:46-04:00

There is a large range of cameras that can produce 360° Photospheres. The Ricoh Theta is an inexpensive consumer camera that many low priced Google Street View photographers use. Hallmarks include low resolution, lack of depth of field and substandard image quality.

We use the latest Matterport Pro 2 Camera. This amazing camera provides high-quality images and generates a standalone 3D tour for our clients’ websites

How does an average user find Google Street View Tours?2019-10-10T17:25:03-04:00

The entry point to a Google Street View Tour is from the ‘See Photos’ link on your business listing. You can also enter your tour by dropping the ‘peg man’ on your building in Google Maps. In some instances, your tour may be linked to the actual street to where someone playing around with Google Street View can navigate into your business.

You can also choose to embed your GSV tour on your website. Our clients receive BOTH a Google Street View and Matterport Tour. We believe that Matterport Spaces are much easier to navigate, load faster, and are an overall better product. Therefore, we recommend using the Matterport Tour for your website.

How do I prepare and schedule my space for scanning?2019-10-10T14:26:03-04:00

The 3D Showcase camera system incorporates High Dynamic Range Imaging (HDR) sensors which allow the camera to adjust to changes in light.  This means that both light and dark areas can be captured at the same time.  The only issues encountered with this system are direct overhead sunlight.  Showcases ultimately turn out best when scheduled on a cloudy day, or in the morning or evening hours. As long as there is sufficient interior lighting, the finished project will look as good as a model created on a sunny day.

For oceanfront properties and similar spaces that feature a view to the outside property as a key selling point, good weather is best, but can be worked out on a case-by-case basis.

The nature of LIDAR 3D scanning is such that environments of harsh or bright sunlight may affect sections of the 3D model.  Outdoor scanning is not supported and will be included only when possible.  360° photos are available if weather permits at time of scan.

And, if you can embed a YouTube video or Google map on your site, you can easily embed a Google virtual tour.

Do I need to be present for the entire scan?2019-10-10T14:21:30-04:00

You are not required to be on site while we scan the property. The scanning process can be time consuming and most real estate professionals prefer to provide a lock-box code or unlock the property themselves.  During the scan, rooms must be empty (or appear so) in order to align properly and avoid inconsistencies.  Even the camera operator has to “hide” from the camera for each scan.  You are welcome to stay on site during the entirety of the scan, but you will be guided by the camera operator regarding where you can be so as not to appear in the tour.

Do I need special software to take a virtual tour?2019-11-12T16:57:17-05:00

You do not need special software to view a virtual tour created by 3D Maine. The Matterport tour can be accessed on PCs and Macs, as well as tablets and mobile phones. Most browsers support viewing virtual tours.

You do have the option to take your virtual tour with a virtual reality device. This does involve additional equipment. Currently, Matterport supports Google Cardboard and Samsung Gear VR.

Do I need a photographer?2019-11-12T16:05:44-05:00

The Matterport camera takes high-resolution photos in addition to creating a virtual tour. These photos are perfect for most real estate listings. However, a professional photographer will capture angles and provide editing that the Matterport system does not. If you are creating an in-depth listing, you may want to consider hiring additional photography services.

Can I get leads from my virtual tour?2019-11-12T16:02:23-05:00

The Matterport tour system does not retain any information about people who view your tour. Therefore, it does not gather leads in the traditional sense.

However, the virtual tours have a setting that allows you to embed a link to your website within the video. This allows interested buyers to contact you directly and provide any necessary contact information and questions they may have.

Are There Any Additional or Future Costs?2019-10-10T17:20:01-04:00

The cost is one time, nothing additional. The business owner gets full access to and use of the virtual tour. The tour can be embedded on your website, Facebook or blog. If you ever want the tour removed you can do that. If you would like an updated shoot to reflect seasonal changes, new features, a remodeling or whatever it can be arranged as an additional shoot at a discount.

Are the 3D Virtual Tours viewable on mobile devices, tablets and VR headsets?2019-10-10T14:19:03-04:00

Absolutely!  Our 3D Virtual Tours are cross-compatible for viewing on ANY device – desktop, mobile, tablet, VR headset – you name it.
